the challenge

A single point of failure could disrupt an entire site

Foodland's head-office connectivity depended on a single fibre service, with a separate dedicated cloud circuit and an extra router adding cost and complexity.

The design had no path redundancy — a single carrier fault could take the site fully offline, which is exactly what occurred during a carrier account change. Connectivity pricing had also fallen market-wide, leaving Foodland paying above the current rate.

the solution

A modern, resilient enterprise network built for care

Building on Foodland's recent investment in enterprise SD-WAN, Tyto designed a connectivity refresh that cut cost while adding true redundancy.

  • Recontracted the primary fibre service onto current, lower pricing with a tier-one carrier.
  • Added a diverse, redundant business fibre link on a separate carrier backbone — so the two services share no fibre or provider, giving genuine failover.
  • Removed the standalone router and retired the dedicated private cloud circuit, replacing it with an SD-WAN site-to-site VPN into a cloud-hosted appliance — increasing the Azure link bandwidth and hardening the data-centre edge.
the outcome

A resilient network aligned to the needs of aged care

Foodland moved from a single point of failure to two diverse carriers with automatic failover, a simplified edge, and a faster, more secure link to its Azure environment.

The proposal projected a meaningful reduction in monthly connectivity cost over the term — while increasing resilience rather than trading it away. The value of the redundant design was borne out when a carrier-side change briefly disrupted the primary path — the scenario the second carrier is there to cover.
